Long time

February 23rd, 2009

I guess I haven’t updated for almost two weeks.  A lot going on…not.

Weight is still in the 330’s.  Been in it for over a week.  I must have eaten something that had more carbs then I realised or maybe my body is just holding onto the fat.  Either way it will go down.  Diet hasn’t really changed any.  I had today off from work so I went to lunch with my dad.  Ruby Tuesday’s, love the salad bar and hot wings.

Gym is still going quite well.  I haven’t been doing three times a day but I have been twice a day at least.  Running has been going great.  I am now up to 2.02 miles in 25 minutes.  I have two more weeks of couch to 5k then I am going to add in three minutes a week until I get to 5k.  I should be at 5k before I go home.

Still don’t know when I am going home.  Sometime in late March.  I don’t want to leave before I can run 5k or be able to do a 12.4 mile bike ride.  I haven’t ridden as much lately with the running, swimming and racquetball.  I started playing racquetball with the guy who works at the gym here.  His name is Rhett, he is 22 and in great shape.  I beat him the first two games, then he beat me 8 straight.  I came back and beat him last game though so there is hope.

I bought myself a new camera.  This one is a Nikon D80 DSLR.  This thing is awesome.  So far I have been to the Naval Air Museum and the Zoo.  You can visit my flickr page and check out all my pics.  Some are quite bad but I am just learning.  I hope to get good enough that lots of people like my work, not just me.

20 Minutes

February 7th, 2009

Today was a monumental day for me today.  I ran for 20 minutes straight.   I did Day 3, Week 5 of couch to 5k and it called for running 20 minutes straight.  I actually did it.  I am so happy.  I even averaged 4.45 MPH which is faster then any of my other runs.  I know this doesn’t mean a lot to people in shape but it means a hell of a lot to me.

The scale came Wednesday Night.  When it came I hopped on and came in at 359.  The next morning I was 355.  Today I started the day out at 349.  My goal now is to be 320 or below before I head home.  If I keep exercising hard it will be doable.  And if it kills me, I will keep exercising hard.  The weather is warming up here so I should be able to bike outside more often.  I went to the gym 3 times a day Monday thruough Thursday.  Worked out twice today.  Want to try and keep the 3 times a day on weekdays for at least two more weeks.  The extra cardio can only help.

Diet’s been clean as a whistle.  Not even close to anything off plan.  I continue to do great and will continue to do so.  My dad and I are getting a lot of the same staple foods at Sams and Walmart.  Glad I like repetition because I eat a lot of the same thing.  Yummy beef.

Gout, pork and a little bit more.

February 1st, 2009

I am starving right now.  I didn’t really eat lunch, had a good amount of roasted pork loin and broccoli for dinner and just had a bit of leftover roast with hot sauce on it and I am still starving.    I wonder if I am somehow out of ketosis?  Eh who knows.

I woke up at 3:30am Thursday morning because my right knee was killing me.  Turns out I had gout in that knee, so I popped some pills, and went back to bed.  Thursday I still managed to lift and do 40 minutes on the elliptical but the pool was still closed so no swimming.  The knee hurt too much to bike and it was an off day for running.

Friday I woke up and my knee was worse.  It was hard to walk, and if I kept it bent or straight to long it was hard to undo.  I didn’t work out at all.  Instead I went to Ruby Tuesday’s for lunch with my dad and Texas Road House for dinner.  I had possibly the best prime rib of my life at Texas Roadhouse.  Was absolutely delicious.

Saturday I woke up and my knee was better, not 100% but better.  I did an hour on the elliptical, lifted and did 3 miles on my bike in my new bike shorts.  I didn’t want to push the knee on the bike.  I felt good with what I did and didn’t feel like I was lazy.

Today my knee was better but not 100%.  I finally did day 3 of week 4 of couch to 5k.  I only did 1.53 miles rather then the 1.57 I got out Wednesday but with the weaker now and pounding headache I am glad I pushed through.  This week will be the tough week.  Jogging 8 minutes at once is something I haven’t done in forever.  I also lifted today, did 40 minutes on the elliptical and 2/3 of a mile in the pool.  My knee may not be 100% but my body was willing and able.

I went back to my old lifting routine.  I realised a few things about my new routine.  It was working as it was designed but I need to get stronger first.  I am no where’s near being strong enough to do a pull up so first I must get stronger.  When I get back to mass I have been talking with some guys about doing a P90x challenge.  It all depends on if I can do a pull up and am under 300.  I will try hard for both.

My dad and I made a great trip to Sam’s today.  We got beef roast, rib-eyes, sirloin steaks (cheap and easy on the foreman for me) and another corned beef and cabbage.  My dad liked the one I made last week.   I will admit there isn’t a lot of variety in my diet.  I don’t eat much fish or a wide range of vegetables but what I do eat is damn good.    Someone asked me tonight when I was going off the diet.  My plan is to never go off it permanently.  I will go off for occasions, my birthday, Thanksgiving, maybe a party or something but low carbing is the only way I will ever not be morbidly obese.  I have accepted that and don’t really mind.

Today was a good day

January 26th, 2009

The exercise was rocking today.  I did day 1, week 4 of couch to 5k.  I ran 1.52 miles in 21:30.  I am so very proud of myself.  I thought I would have to repeat last weeks.  I also got a 6.23 Mile bike ride in @ 30 minutes.  I am getting more used to the seat.  I then lifted and did 40 minutes on the elliptical.  I was going to swim but the pool is closed due to pump failure.  either way it was a great day.

Diets going damn strong.  I am eating a lot but who wouldn’t be working out like me.  I am still not below 350 so I can’t tell you what I weigh.  As soon as I know I will post it.  I haven’t taken 7 month shots yet but hope to this week.

Hope everyone else is well.

Florida (it’s supposed to be warm right)

January 19th, 2009

Florida is supposed to be warm right?  Today was the first day I biked in a week and swam in 5 or 6 days.  I came to Florida to exercise outdoors more and it gets really frigging cold.  Damn it all.  I guess gods just preparing us for hell freezing over tomorrow.  I have been exercising just haven’t been biking outdoors or swimming a lot.  It’s also supposed to be ass cold tomorrow too, wtf.

Diet is still going well.  My dad bought me a beef roast and some pork tenderloin roasts last night.  With the foreman grill and the stuff I have in house I am eating quite well.  He still goes out to eat a lot but I don’t usually go with him.  We went out Saturday in Foley and went to Ruby Tuesdays.  I had cheese, not something I do often.  I tend to think cheese slows me down or stalls my weight loss.

I am starting a new lifting routine today.  I am going from trying to build massive strength into trying to build endurance.  I am going to basically do 15 back, bi, chest, tri and ab exercises in a row without a real break.  Then on leg day, legs, shoulders, wrists/forearms and abs.  I haven’t done the routine yet so not 100% sure how it is going to work out but we’ll see tonight.  I’ll try not to puke :)

Speaking of puking I completed day 1, week 3 of couch to 5k yesterday with my sister.  I almost puked,  I yakked twice but nothing came out.  I completed all of the running time though so I feel good about it.  I have a strong feeling I will be repeating this week next week though.  Running 5 minutes at once seems like an impossibilty right now, or at least trying to do it next week.

I bought a scale today on amazon.  It was a good price and goes much heaver then I am now so I am not worried about breaking it.  I know I need to not be a slave to the scale but I’d like to know how I am doing.  Especially wanting to be at 330 or below by the time I leave.  We’ll see where I am when it gets here.

Happy New Year

January 6th, 2009

Well a new year has started.  The only real resolution I made was for this year to be better then the last.  So far so good.  I spent new years with my friends Markand Kristen and their adorable daughter Hannah.  Hannah is going to have a sibling soon and that kid is going to have to be awfully cute to beat out Hannah.  Either way a good time was had, I learned a new card game and got to see my favorite child.

I left Philadelphia and made the day and a half trek to Florida.  I made it 2/3 of the way the first day, stayed at a motel in northeastern alabama then made it to my dads by 2pm est on Friday the 2nd.  He wasn’t as surprised as I thought he would be to see me.  I think he might have figured something out somehow.

The weather here is great.  Its been at least 70 everyday.  I have run, walked or biked every single day and will continue to while I am here.  My dad paid for me to join his gym so after a few days off while at marks and traveling I am back into my routine.  His gym doesn’t have a lot fo equipment but their is never anyone their.    They have an outdoor pool with this big tent like thing over it.  I’m going to try and swim at least 4 days a week.  Got a swimming challenge going with my buddy Nate, first one to 20 miles.  Another person going down.  Hey Nate, call Mark and my buddy Chuck, ask them what happened when they went one on one with the great one.

The diet is going excellent.  My dad bought me a Foreman my first day here.  Its not as fancy as the one at home butI never use the timer anyways.  It does what I need it to do.  I am hoping to be below 330 by the time I go home but I am not sure if I will be or not.

Life is good (check out 6 month progress pic on post below)

December 21st, 2008

So things in my life are going pretty well.  We lost power for 4 days so I missed 3 days at the gym but life is going well.  We are in the middle of a snow storm.  It started Friday and hasn’t stopped yet.  Thank god we have a plow guy.

The gym is going great.  I am doing plenty of cardio and lifting feels wonderful.  I’ve added clean and press’s into my shoulder routine and their my new favorite exercise.  I won my biking challenge and am kicking ass in my walking challenge.  If things go according to plan i’ll be done sometime this week.  If anyone wants to start a challenge let me know I am open to try almost anything.

Going to Florida in a few weeks.  When I am their I will be able to walk and bike outside.  That should give me more time everyday to train more.  I am sick of the snow and driving to the gym to walk.  Florida will be a great change.

I bought a gps for my car, a magellan 4050 for my trip to Florida,  I bought a mount for the Iphone for the car, I bought a wrist gps for walking and biking, I also got an ezpass to save time at toll plazas.  I went a little toy crazy for christmas.  You can check out the pics of my new stuff on my flickr page.

The diet is still crystal clean.  We got our second side of beef yesterday. My flickr page has a great picture of the rib roast I will be cooking soon.   I am somewhere in the 360’s if the gym scale is accurate.  Until I get below 350 I won’t have another scale to verify it.  So it might be a while before I start posting my weight.

Surgery

December 10th, 2008

When I first started going to the gym I would swim everyday.  Sometimes two times a day.  On certain evenings their was an aqua aerobics class going on at the same time.  I never paid much attention to it, I just swam and did my thing.  When I got to the gym tonight a lady came up to me and asked me if I’d had surgery.  I was puzzled at first and I am sure she could tell that by my “uh what”  expression.  She then clarified and asked if I’d had my stomach stapled.  She was shocked I’d lost so much weight so fast.  I told her no and thanked her very much for the compliment as I walked to the courts with a huge smile on my face.

Now I must honestly say, I did contemplate surgery on more then one occasion.  When I was in Florida last year my dad asked me about it a bunch.  There were commercials on tv for a local hospital doing it and I thought how easy it would be.  I know others that have done it with great success.  Then I realised I never could do it.  It’d feel like cheating.  For me it’s like someone else did the work, why should I reap the benefits?  If you got it and it worked for you, I am very happy for you.  For me, its the easy way out and at this point in my life, its not what i needed.

The weight is still coming off, I’m around 140 pounds heavier (if the scale is right) from my all time low. I won’t make it that low by the J-athlon but I’ll be in the ballpark.  I am eating great and exercising like a mad man.  Going two or three times a day on work days.  I rode 80.1 miles on the bike Monday and finished the 250 mile challenge up on Tuesday.  I am now focusing on the 100 mile challenge by foot with Mark.  I need to push hard, and I believe I can win it.  I will win it.

I bought a GPS for my car last week, a magellan 4050.  It seems pretty cool so far.  I am hoping it helps me get to Mark’s without almost driving to Albany next time.  I also bought a watch.  If you know me, you know i don’t wear watches.  I smacked the crap out of my wrists, but I think it will be good to wear with nicer clothes when I get closer to goal weight.  A little more grown up is all.
